Loeb on brink of Sardinia win

Sebastien Loeb looks certain of victory in Sardinia with just one stage to go, but Mikko Hirvonen and Petter Solberg are only 1.3 seconds apart in the battle for second. Loeb's 28s overnight lead always looked adequate with today's itinerary consisting of just three stages on the morning loop and then the eight-kilometre power stage. Hirvonen (Ford) gained a few seconds on Loeb's Citroen on the opening Gallura stage, lost a few with a slight error on Monte Olia, but then took 10.5s out of the leader when Loeb found the surface on Terranova particularly slippery for the first car on the road
