2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake with 800 horsepower headed for New York

Shelby has no qualms about constantly upping the horsepower of its range-topping Ford GT500 Super Snake. When first introduced in 2008, the base Super Snake had a mere 605 ponies under the hood with an option for up to 725. That number increased to 750 for 2010, and now for the 2012 model year, Shelby is set to unveil the latest Super Snake with up to 800 tire-shredding horsepower on tap from its 5.4-liter supercharged V8.
Like previous Super Snake models, the latest version will come with a host of other upgrades including a sport suspension system, Baer six-piston brakes, Borla exhaust system, Alcoa 20-inch wheels, fiberglass hood and more.
We'll get our first look at the 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake when it debuts at the New York Auto Show later this month, but until then, you can read more details about the car in the press release after the jump or check out the outgoing car in our gallery below.

The 2012 A7 five-door is drop-dead gorgeous and headed to an Audi dealer near you in the next month. Interested? You're going to have to shell out $59,250 (*$60,125 including $875 in destination charges) if you want to pick up the base Premium model. That puts the A7 right in the middle pricing-wise between the $45,200 A6 and the $78,050 A8.
Spending $60k on the coupe-like sedan will net you Audi's 310-horsepower, 3.0L TFSI V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also standard is Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system with a rear-biased 40/60 power split. Jump up to the Premium Plus model and you're looking at a base price of $62,810 ($63,685 with destination). The Plus variant adds Audi Connect plus MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch controls.
The top-of-the-line Prestige model starts at $65,580 ($66,455 with destination), which adds four-zone climate control, full-time LED headlamps, 12-way power front seats with ventilation and a Bose sound system. The A7 configurator, which is live on Audi's sales site, shows that the A7 can be optioned out to $80,000 or more with options like a $5,900 Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, $1,500 20-inch Sport package and $5,800 innovation package that includes adaptive cruise control, night vision and blind spot protection. All models feature the supercharged 3.0-liter V6.

Ford looks to save weight with bubble-infused plastics

Just like every other automaker, Ford is looking into making its cars lighter, and thus more eco-friendly. Thanks to a bubble-infused plastic introduced at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology [MIT] called MuCell, Ford says it can step further toward its goal of lightening all its cars by anywhere from 200 to 750 pounds.
MuCell is made by pumping tiny bubbles of nitrogen or carbon into standard injection-molded plastics. Though the bubbly plastic is slightly weaker than the standard stuff, Ford says the difference will be negligible, since its plastic parts are engineered to be 50 to 100 percent stronger than they should ever need to be.
Though the idea is still in development, Ford says it wants to be running MuCell plastics in all its cars by 2020. Though the technology has been around since 1995, it hasn't made sense for automakers to start buying in until now. With a new focus on green technology in the automotive industry, the move suddenly makes a lot of sense, and Ford will start using the plastic in items like engine covers beginning in the next few years. McMurray earns Martinsville pole
Jamie McMurray made it two pole positions in a row for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after setting the fastest time in qualifying for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville. Breaking: Ford beats GM in March sales

General Motors posted its seventh consecutive sales gain for the month of March, with 206,621 total sales. A good month, no doubt, but Ford had a better month for just the second time since 1998. Ford last bested GM in February, 2010. The Blue Oval posted sales of 212,295, thanks in part to a 21-percent jump in truck sales.
That's a victory of 5,674 units for the Dearborn, MI-based automaker, but the real drubbing came in the ongoing battle of Ford Vs. Chevrolet. The Bowtie brand moved 148,197 units, compared to 203,794 for Team Ford. That's a 28-percent sales jump for the Blue Oval, which admittedly amped up fleet sales for the month, but retail sales were also up 14 percent.
Ford had plenty of hot products moving off dealer lots, with 53,272 F-Series trucks sold, a record 9,787 Fiestas and record March sales for the Escape and Fusion. One factor holding back GM sales was a $700 per vehicle cutback in incentive spending, though that will probably help the automaker's bottom line more than a few extra Malibu sedans rolling off the line.
While Ford was victorious in March, GM is still up for the year by 97,000 units. Stay tuned to Autoblog for our monthly By the Numbers update, which will lay out sales totals for all of the major automakers selling in the U.S.

Ricciardo to miss opening FR3.5 race
Red Bull and Toro Rosso Formula 1 reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo has announced that he will miss the opening Formula Renault 3.5 round at Motorland Aragon on April 16th-17th. The 1967 Toyota 2000 GT is a unique beast in that it seems above reproach by even the harshest automotive critics. 44 years after the first 2000 GT rolled out of the Toyota factory, it checks all the right boxes. It's fast, gorgeous, insanely rare and marked a new era for its manufacturer.
Prior to the 2000 GT, Toyota was known for spitting out small, reliable, cheap sedans and four-by-fours that got the job done admirably, but lacked a little je ne sais quoi. The 2000 GT changed all that, and showed that Toyota could hang with Italian blue-bloods like Ferrari almost at the flip of a switch.
Toyota wound up building just 351 2000 GTs for worldwide consumption. Just 84 of those were left-hand-drive, with only 62 making it to the States. This is one of perhaps 40 American-delivery 2000 GTs that still exist. It's a one-owner car, bought in St. Louis, Missouri. After a long time in storage, the car got a thorough detail job, engine rebuild and interior freshening at Maine Line Exotics in Biddeford, Maine. It's available on eBay with a stupefying $650,000 Buy-It-Now. If you have the means, we suggest you do just that.
