Red Bull to pull plug on Cup team
Red Bull is set to leave the Sprint Cup series at the end of the season but the team it owns is looking for investors to keep the outfit afloat. A story from the Associated Press on Monday stated that an official from Red Bull informed industry leaders of the decision at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday. Later a statement from the team all but confirmed the report.

Toyota is set to pull the sheets back on a new convertible sports hybrid at this year's Nurburgring 24-Hour endurance race. Co-developed by Gazoo Racing, the GRMN Hybrid Concept II is a slightly updated version of the concept that Toyota displayed at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon.
With its gasoline engine mounted mid-ship and a hybrid all-wheel-drive system, the GRMN should deliver drivers plenty of grip and excellent balance as well. Total combined output sits at 295 horsepower, with 245 ponies coming from the gasoline V6 and another 50 arriving via an electric motor. That motor supplies power to the two front wheels only.
The automaker says the machine weighs in at less than 3,300 lbs, though there's no indication as to what sort of fuel economy to expect from the drop-head. So, when can you buy one? We wouldn't hold our breath. With its wild looks and pricey all-wheel-drive system, it'll be a cold day in Toyota City before the GRMN lands on dealer lots. Hit the jump for the press release.

Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandes says the squad must learn from the Montreal mistakes that saw it squander a chance to snatch an upset result in the mixed conditions a week ago. Yamaha aims to pressure Stoner
Yamaha team manager Wilco Zeelenberg says his squad is looking forward to giving chase to Casey Stoner and putting the Honda rider under pressure after Jorge Lorenzo lost his championship lead by crashing at Silverstone. Lorenzo had been clinging on to a narrowing points cushion as Stoner took a string of wins, but when the Spaniard fell in the wet British Grand Prix and the Australian went on to win, Stoner pulled 18 points clear in the standings.

Haryanto claims first Auto GP pole
DAMS driver Rio Haryanto secured his first series pole position in qualifying for the Auto GP races at Brno. Haryanto, who made his debut in the series this year at the first event at Monza, set a fastest lap of 1m42.985s - just over five hundredths of a second faster than long-time session leader Luca Filippi's 1m43.040s. In an attempt to leapfrog the series debutant in the closing moments of qualifying, Filippi pushed too much on his final run, ran wide at Turn 6 and spun his Super Nova Racing entry out of contention.

Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon put Ganassi first and second in IndyCar morning practice at the Milwaukee Mile. The duo set their best times early on their opening runs of the day, and remained out of the competition's reach for the rest of the hour. Tony Kanaan had a strong run for KV Racing in third place, with Helio Castroneves the top Penske driver in fourth and Ryan Hunter-Reay Andretti Autosport's lead runner in fifth.
