FIA confirms 15,000rpm rev limit
The FIA has confirmed that a 15,000rpm rev limit will be imposed on Formula 1 engines from 2014 onwards. Teams will switch from the current 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8s to V6 1.6-litre turbos in 2014. However, there had been concerns that the originally-planned rev limit of 12,000 rpm would detract from the spectacle.

Volvo City Safety System gets thumbs up from NHTSA, IIHS [w/video]

Volvo just got a major thumbs up in the safety department. Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have stated that the automaker's City Safety technology helps reduce, and even prevent, low-speed collisions. In fact, the IIHS noted that users of City Safety wind up filing nearly 30 percent less at-fault claims.
The system, which is available on the Volvo XC60, works by monitoring traffic in front of the vehicle. When driving at a speed of between two and 19 miles per hour, the car can apply the brakes should forward traffic suddenly do the same. When the difference in speed between your car and one in front of you is nine mph or less, the Volvo will brake quickly enough to avoid an accident. Above that threshold and you're most likely going into the car in front of you but the damage will be greatly reduced compared to an accident involving cars not utilizing the City Safety System.

Revised 2012 Chevrolet Impala to net 30 mpg on highway

The Chevrolet Impala hasn't had many updates since it last received an overhaul for 2006, but that changes for 2012, at least in the area of powertrains. As we told you back in May, the otherwise untouched Impala will receive General Motors' tried and true 3.6-liter V6 for 2012. The direct-injected engine boasts 302 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque - a far cry from the 211-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 it replaces. Heck, even the optional 3.9-liter V6 could only muster 230 horsepower.
To sweeten the pot a bit more, the Environmental Protection Agency's website now verifies that the 2012 Impala can hit 30 miles per gallon on the highway. That's better than the 29 mpg of the outgoing model, though the '12 model could only manage 18 mpg in city driving, while the '11 model registers a tick better at 19 mpg. While the combined fuel economy of the two models is likely still the same, it's hard to argue with an extra 91 horsepower without a penalty at the pump.

Rankings: Muller into top 60
Yvan Muller's emphatic World Touring Car Championship double at Donington Park last weekend allowed him to break into the Castrol EDGE Rankings top 60. Spy Shots: 2012 Honda CR-V caught testing again

A couple of months ago, we brought you a solitary spy shot of a virtually undisguised prototype of the next-generation Honda CR-V undergoing testing right here in the U.S. of A. And now, in a solid indication that development is proceeding despite setbacks in Japan, another pair of test mules has popped up.
What we can tell from the full batch of spy shots is that Honda appears to have taken a few pages out of the Volvo design book for the new CR-V - particularly around its rear quarters. And that's no bad thing, seeing as how the XC60 is one of the slickest crossovers on the market right now.
While still unconfirmed, the shape also seems to confirm rumors of a newly instituted third row of seats for seven-passenger capacity, a feature which is being demanded more and more by crossover buyers in order to justify the genre's large form.
Expect the 2.4-liter VTEC four to get a slight bump in both power and efficiency when it goes into production in Ohio and Ontario before the winter sets back in.

Apparently, now is not a good time to be a brunette woman in your mid-20s. Why, you ask? It turns out you might be mistaken for Casey Anthony. And there might be lunatics out there doing their best to kill you.
Sound far-fetched? It's already happened. A woman named Sammay Blackwell of Chouteau, Oklahoma, was just finishing her nightly shift at a convenience store when she first met Shireen Nalley. A half-hour later when her shift ended at 10:30, Blackwell left in her Nissan pickup.
Unfortunately for Blackwell, Nalley had been waiting for her to leave, and she followed her out of the parking lot. A short time alter, Nalley rammed Blackwell's truck with her Chrysler minivan, and later collided with it again, causing Blackwell's truck to flip several times, landing on the driver's side.
Fortunately, Blackwell escaped without serious injury, and Nalley was later apprehended by the police. The reason she gave for trying to kill Blackwell? According to the attacker, she looked like Casey Anthony and she was "trying to save the children."
Salley is currently being held in jail, and police say there was evidence she was under the influence of drugs when they took her in. As a final indignity, Blackwell says that Nalley's insurance company is claiming it's not liable for damages if its client caused the accident on purpose.
Although Blackwell says she doesn't really look like Casey Anthony in any meaningful way, there is one coincidence: Blackwell has a young daughter named Caylee. Check out a video from the reporting Oklahoma news station after the break.

SRT cancels Ricard return
The Swiss Racing Team has cancelled its planned return to the GT1 World Championship at Paul Ricard this weekend, and is not certain to return to the series at all. The outfit, which switched from Ford to Lamborghini machinery last winter, suffered significant damage to both its Murcielagos on the opening lap of the Sachsenring race in May and has missed the last two races at Silverstone and Navarra as a result. Now, team principal Othmar Welti says that as a result of 'multiple problems' that have occurred since then, the team has been withdrawn for the time being.

Juho Hanninen leads Rally Azores by 4.3 seconds over local favourite Bruno Magalhaes after the three stages that opened the event this evening.
